Baby and Toddler Recipe Books - Reviewed

There is a growing worldwide obesity epidemic and as parents ourselves we recognise the importance of teaching young children good eating habits and preparing healthy and nutritious foods. That is why, we at ReviewPanels.com, have reviewed many of the leading books and tested the recipes out on our own families.

The following baby and toddler recipe books have been voted as top by our reviewers for health and nutrition, ease of use and most importantly enjoyment of the children!!

Annabel Karmel's New Complete Baby and Toddler Meal Planner

by Annabel Karmel

This book has been the number one bestseller for feeding children for 15 years. We found a comprehensive range of nutritional and easy meals for babies and young toddlers.

The book is broken down into the various stages from the weaning stage, puree'd foods up to foods that 'have lumpy bits'. We have tried out most of the recipes on our two young children over the last couple of years and have found some favourites that we revisit time and time again.

All of the recipes concentrate on packing as many nutritional fruits and vegetables in. With alternatives for traditional sauces e.g. gravy that give babies a variety of textures and tastes without the sugars and salts.

Our only small issue is that there is a little too much emphasis on the weaning and pureed meals as some children move through that stage quicker than others so may be left wanting more. We recommend you trust your judgement on the timings of the stages.

This book is a must have for any new parents, you can be safe in the knowledge that you are giving your child the best start in life.

Organic Baby and Toddler Cookbook: Easy Recipes for Natural Food

by Lizzie Vann

Although it is titled '...Baby and Toddler...' it actually starts the process during pregnancy. There is a section dedicated to nutrition for expectant mothers which is refreshing advice that many books do not cover. We found the information on pesticides and additives particularly eye-opening.

The recipe sections start from the weaning stage and continue all the way up to pre-school age. Although not as comprehensive as Annabel Karmel the length of time you will use this book makes the price very reasonable.

It contains over 70 recipes with advice on why choosing organic food is important for young children.

Our children found some of the foods a little bit exotic for their palates but generally they were gobbled down happily (especially the Pumpkin Stew In A Pot!). They also have some of the traditional recipes like Sausages, Mash and Gravy (with an organic twist of course!).

There is some great stuff in here which will keep your kids happy and healthy for years to come.

The Big Book of Recipes for Babies, Toddlers & Children: 365 Quick, Easy, and Healthy Dishes

by Bridget Wardley & Judy More

As the title suggests this is a big selection of recipes for young children from babies through past school age. It is penned by two pediatric dieticians so you know the recipes are healthy and nutritionally varied.

Along with the recipes there is a lot of good advice about how to promote good eating habits and when and why to introduce the various types of foods.

We tried a selection of the recipes from the baby and toddler sections and we found them quick and easy to prepare and well received by our little guinea pigs. They especially liked the chocolate banana pancakes - well who wouldn't?!

This is a fun book with some great ideas that your children of all ages will enjoy.
